From the earliest days of the Anglican Church in this Province, it was hoped to establish the Religious Life in
the Diocese of Christchurch. Sister Edith CSA from London responded to the call of Churchill Julius, Bishop of
Christchurch, and came to New Zealand to be the mother foundress of this community in 1893. The chief work of the
Community is to praise God. Mother Edith said, ‘If you are firm at the centre, you are free at the circumference.’
St Christopher’s Home, Fiji, was established in 1968. here, a group of Polynesian sisters make a home for children
of all races. The house in Wellington was established in 1990 with work for the city mission. A house in Tonga
is at present being established to help in church work there. Of the twenty professed Sisters, thirteen are Polynesian
and seven European.
