The Community was founded to serve Africa by a life of prayer and missionary work, but withdrew from active work in Tanzania in 1991, leaving behind the Tanzanian Community of St Mary of Nazareth and Calvary (CMM) (see separate entry). Although not actively engaged in Africa, the Sisters hold that continent particularly in their prayers and continue to support in many small ways the Tanzanians who are continuing the gospel work.
At the main house in Effingham, goods and money given for overseas work are collected and sent. The Sisters welcome guests for quiet times and private retreats. Visiting the sick and house-bound and Chaplaincy work in cathedral and hospital are also part of the work. The two Sisters living in Portsmouth aim to be available to those who need their support and have helped several asylum seekers and lonely children. A Sister lives in south London where, being a member of the World Community for Christian meditation, she communicates and nurtures meditation in the spirit of serving the unity of all. She is also a school governor.
