The Community was founded by Benjamin Lancaster, a Governor of St George's Hospital, Hyde Park, London. He wished his poorer patients to have convalescent care before returning to their homes. The Sisters also nursed cholera and TB patients, and opened orphanages and homes for children and the elderly. They were asked by priests to help in the parish and they were asked to go to Korea in 1892.
The Sisters now have a house for women with learning difficulties; also a large Retreat house, recently refurbished. They have close links with the Society of the Holy Cross in Korea which was founded by the Community (see separate entry). Because of the closure of their Nursing/Care Home, a new work is planned outside the Community in the way of continued care, using Sisters' abilities, talents and qualifications in nursing, counselling and social work. Having been away during the day, they return home to a place of prayer. We are small in number but are hoping for growth in our new venture.
The Eucharist is celebrated daily at the Convent and there is a fourfold daily Office.
