The Korean Franciscan Brotherhood is a community in formation in the Anglican Church of Korea. We are supported
by the Society of St Francis through the loan of one of their brothers as a mentor and through other contact, although
KFB is not a part of SSF. The two communities formalised their relationship by a Covenant agreed between them in
2001. We have also been supported by the sisters of the Society of the Holy Cross in Seoul. Our aims are to contribute
to the building up of God’s kingdom by a life of witness through prayer, hospitality and service. In 2001, the
friary moved from Incheon to a rural location in Gangwondo (90km east of Seoul) where we are at present working
with Seoul Diocese in designing a retreat centre to be built nearby. When construction is completed, we will be
managing this centre as a resource for the Diocese. We also offer hospitality to guests at the friary and lead
youth and spirituality programmes, work with some local social welfare organisations and participate with Roman
Catholic Franciscans in justice, peace and integrity of creation concerns. Through sharing in the Daily Office
with our guests, we try to promote liturgical awareness.
