SOCIETY OF ST MARGARET, Boston     SSM

The Sisters of St Margaret are an Episcopal Religious Order of women called to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ through our worship and work, prayer and common life.  Our commitment to God and to one another is expressed through vows of poverty, celibate chastity and obedience.

The Eucharist is central to our lives.  From the center we go forth to celebrate the diversity, fullness and creativity of the people of God.  We reverence all, seeking the living Christ in one another and in all creation.  We strive for a spirit of fearlessness in Christian service, encouraged and empowered by the presence of the Spirit.

Our Sisters minister in many places: schools, prisons, parishes, nursing homes and homeless shelters.  Our Houses offer hospitality to guests, retreatants, parish and civic groups, and all who long for a contemplative space in their lives.  As a Community we will deepen our commitment to prayer, inviting others to join us in seeking greater intimacy with God.   We live out our values in ministry with the poorest of the poor in Haiti; at the crossroads of urban life in lower Manhattan; and in Boston and its suburbs.
