St Margaret’s Convent, Boston, is one of the five autonomous convents that constitute the Society of St Margaret founded by John Mason Neale. The American Convent was established in 1873 to administer the Children’s Hospital in Boston. Today, our mission is to the world around us and so it must cross all boundaries and respect the integrity of every other person. We find many institutions (hospitals, homes, schools, prisons, shelters, feeding programs and the Church) to be places where mission can take place. We also welcome into our houses individuals and groups who seek a place to pray or a place apart to plan and work. The essentials of our life are: Devotion to the Presence of Christ in the Holy Name, in the Blessed Sacrament, in our Sisters, in our neighbor and in Scripture. We are gathered in community, vowed to God, to one another and to the poor. We value one another and our diverse gifts. We have come together from many parts of the world as well as many places in the United States. There are members from Haiti, Tortolla, England and Canada.
